Jesse is knowledgeable and has a keen sense of what a clients needs are. We had him out for a window job and mentioned the decks structure was about due for repair. Turns out he was 100% right and the 2x10 joists were rotting entirely. We are so pleased that we now have a 100% truly maintenance free deck we will enjoy for years and years. Hands down the best contractor and would recommend his services to everyone!

Jesse is the man. He makes sure my place is always ready for my guest so I don't have to travel up there all the time to do it myself. He is always available and always answers the phone, and he gets stuff done immediately. I have used him for a while now and I highly recommend him.

My wife and I use Colorado Home Check for our seasonal rental in Breckenridge, Colorado. Jesse, did a great job managing our 2 bedroom townhouse rental property. He took care of everything from snow removal and checking for frozen pipes to tenant lockouts. I felt relieved knowing that someone was looking out for my best interest.

Jesse at Colorado Home Check manages my property in the Beaver Creek area. I have a large home and he and his staff do a great job of keeping an eye on it while I am away. They do weekly emails to me with pictures detailing that all is well and letting me know if anything looks like it needs attention. I recently had a renter identify a potential leak in a lower level basement and Colorado Home Check had someone at the home within an hour to deal with the situation. I have also had Jesse help with electrical work and general repairs too. It is great to have someone who is a trained electrician and knows about all the trades helping out while I am away. Thanks Jesse! You give me the peace of mind to know that my house is always safe.

Closest City / Town: Montezuma / Keystone Colorado

Driving Directions:

  • Get onto I-70 and head towards Dillon & Silverthorne.
  • Jump off of I-70 at exit 205.  Take a left at the bottom of the hill, heading east on U.S. Highway 6.
  • Continue on Highway 6 through Keystone, and then hang a right onto County Road 5 (aka Montezuma Road).
  • The Town of Montezuma is located 5.6 miles down County Road 5.  Pass through the Town of Montezuma to the end of County Road 5.
  • There is a winter parking area located at the end of the plowed road on the right – park there.

Hiking Distance: 5.2 miles (roundtrip)

Description: The Deer Creek Trail is primarily for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, although you can hike up Forest Road 5 anytime during the year.  This is the perfect winter trail for a beginner snowshoer or cross-country skier.  The pitch is relatively gentle, there is very little avalanche danger, and there is a low probability of getting lost.

The hike up the Deer Creek Trail kicks off at the end of the plowed road, following Deer Creek the entire distance to the end of your journey.  The trail meanders through the pines in a south/southwest direction, passing by Superior, Upper Chautauqua and Lower Chautauqua Mines on your right, and then Star of the West, Arabella, Mohawk, Upper Radical, and Lower Radical Mines on your left.

Deer Creek Trail progressively gets steeper as it climbs out of the trees.  Timberline, located approximately 2.6 miles in, is the most logical place to turn around.  Do not continue beyond timberline due to increasing avalanche hazards.  Ski or snowshoe your way back down to the trailhead along the same route that you ascended.

Worth Noting: Both Radical Hill and Glacier Mountain rest above 12,000′ in elevation.  The cirque at the end of the hike is absolutely astonishing.  Take a thermos full of hot chocolate or coffee along with you, and spend some time sipping on your hot beverage while soaking in the gorgeous views.

  • The Peru Creek Trailhead is located about 4.5 miles down County Road 5 on your left After crossing the Snake River Before the town of Montezuma.

Before You Go:

This area contains a lot of private land; so observe and respect all “NO TRESPASSING” signs. The last stretch is above timberline; the weather changes quite rapidly.

There will be a lot of motorized vehicles; including Jeeps and ATV’s. There are a few fragile historic buildings they are on private land. Only View them from a distance.

Driving Details:

Ride up Peru Creek Road. Cross Peru Creek and climb gradually up the left side of the valley. Pass a private residence and then the Lenawee Trail at 1.6 miles. Drop into a meadow and pass a fork on the right. Shortly after, on the left, the spur for Chihuahua Gulch appears at 2.2 miles. A steep creekside climb brings you to the timberline and into a large hillside meadow. A spur on the right leads to the crumbling Pennsylvania Mine. Continue on the main road and curve left passing the Shoe Basin Mine at mile marker 5. Beyond this point the road gets steeper and rougher, changing to the more difficult rating. Ascend past several spurs, including a fork to the right the Argentine Pass Trail. The main route remains obvious as it climbs steeply, switchbacks left and reaches a junction near the head of the basin. The the left fork and continue for another mile to a amazing pond. The road dead ends nearby at a miner’s shack. You have reached your destination. Take in the breath taking views and return the way you came.
